Normandy: Alabaster Coast / Limestone Cliffs

Saint-Valery-en-Caux is a typical French seaside town. The main attraction is of course the high limestone cliffs, laid down in layers with horizontal lines of flints. The striking cliffs are the result of a rough sea which has eroded the limestone over the years.

- Canon 1ds Mark III
- Canon 24-70mm 2.8 (at 43mm)
- 34 sec
- f22
- ISO 100
- developed in Lightroom 2.3

Ploumanac'h - 30 seconds

I was amazed by the pink granit rocks around the Ploumanac'h Lighthouse. I photographed this scene long after sunset during high tide. That's why a long exposure of 30 seconds was required.  The B&W development even intensified the structure of the pink granit.

Some technical information:

- Canon 1ds Mark III
- Canon 24-70mm f2.8 (at 24mm)
- ISO 100
- 30 sec
- f18
- developed in Lightroom 2.2

Fairytale Island - Mont Saint-Michel, Normandie

The Fairytale Island Mont Saint-Michel is a rocky tidal island in Normandy, France. This is on the one hand a Fairytale Island (but real !) and on the other hand the place where the greatest tides in the world is running into and out of the Bay each day.

The islet, celebrated for its Benedictine abbey, has small houses and shops on its lowest level. Above these stand the monastic buildings, many of which date from the 13th century and are considered outstanding examples of Gothic architecture.

Some additional information:

- Canon 1ds Mark III

- Canon 16-35 mm f2.8 II (at 16mm)

- ISO 320

- F 13

- 25 sec

- no Filter

Enjoy it ;-)

Gerry
